Officials searching for driver of car involved in chase, crash

DELTA COUNTY, MI--   The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a driver who led a deputy on a chase and crashed his vehicle.

Monday around 8 p.m. the deputy tried to stop a possible suspended driver who was eastbound on 18.3 Road in the Bay View area.  The suspect then turned south on P Road at a high rate of speed.  As he approached Holly Lane he lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a pile of wooden beams and also struck a large pile of iron beams.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and ran towards the Escanaba River.  The deputy started to chase him, but saw a female passenger who appeared to be injured in the car.

The woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.  Officers searched for the suspect but were unable to find him.

A police report has been forwarded to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office for review and the case remains under investigation.
