Officials say careless driving to blame for CR550 rollover

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNMU) – A Marquette teen is lucky to be uninjured, following a one-vehicle crash in Marquette Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was called Monday around 1:30 p.m. to County Road 550 north of Middle Island Point Road.

Deputies say Cassandra Gasman, 17, of Marquette was southbound when she said she fell asleep, drove off the right side of the road, hit the ditch, and rolled the vehicle.

Gasman was uninjured and able to exit the vehicle under her own power. Officials say she was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Gasman was, however, cited for careless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
