Officials in UP researching emergency notification system

ESCANABA, MI (AP)--   Officials in the Upper Peninsula are researching a system that would send emergency messages to cell and landline phones.

Delta County Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Berbohm says that the mass notification system would be used throughout the U.P.

Dispatchers, police and emergency management officials would be able to use the system. The cost would be covered by a grant. Existing funding sources could cover maintenance costs.

Berbohm says the system will "be a very positive thing for the Upper Peninsula to have" and will be used strictly for emergency messages.
