Number of MI unemployed rises

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched up a bit last month as more people re-entered the job market.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says the labor force rose in May by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.5 percent.

The numbers of unemployed increased by 7,000.

Director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Jason Palmer says "more potential workers entered the labor force than is typical for May" and that "payroll jobs recorded a significant gain over the month."

Seasonally adjusted payroll jobs rose in May by 26,000.
