HOUGHTON, MI--   A Hancock man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend in December.

Matthew Norton, 25, was found guilty last month of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with the assault.  He was originally also charged with first-degree CSC and assault with a dangerous weapon for threatening her with a knife and forcing her to have sex.

Norton was ordered in Houghton County Circuit Court this week to serve nine months in jail and five years of probation.  He received credit for 198 days already served, and must also register as a sex offender.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
