Northern student critical following fall at Presque Isle

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette Police have released the name of a man who fell off a cliff at Presque Isle Park on Friday.

Officers and the city fire department responded around 8:30 p.m. to the area of Pirate’s Cove.  They say Maxwell Hardy, 18, of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, was trying to climb down the cliff to the water when he fell 20 feet to the rocks below.  Hardy was with a group of friends, who removed him from the water.  Fire department personnel extricated Hardy from the area using a Stokes Basket.

Hardy was taken to UP Health System Marquette, where he remains in critical condition.

He’s listed as a student at Northern Michigan University.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
