Nominations for Folklife Award still being taken

MARQUETTE, MI--   The deadline to submit a nomination for the Upper Peninsula Folklife Award is quickly approaching. 

Nominees can be a person or organization that has made a difference in the creation or preservation of folk arts in the U.P. Arts genres can include music, dance, storytelling, crafts, food, and others.

The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center will receive nominations through

March 30, and a committee will make the final selection.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
