MARQUETTE, MI--   Two members of the Northern Michigan University men’s ice hockey team have won a couple of top honors.

Goaltender Atte Tolvanen was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Year Tuesday, while head coach Grant Potulny was unanimously named League Coach of the Year. Tolvanen is the second student athlete to earn Goaltender of the Year honors. Potulny’s recognition is the fifth time in Wildcat hockey history that the head coach has been named Coach of the Year.

NMU faces Michigan Tech in the WCHA Championship game this Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Berry Events Center. The winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
