NMU welcomes new provost

MARQUETTE, MI--  Northern Michigan University has hired a familiar face as its new provost.

On Wednesday officials announced professor and dean of the College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies Kerri Schuiling has been named to the post.  Schuiling earned her bachelor's of science in nursing from NMU in 1973.  She joined the nursing faculty in 1998 and was named department head a year later.  From 2001-2011 Schuiling functioned as associate dean and director of the School of Nursing, then left to become dead of the Oakland University School of Nursing.  She returned to Northern last year to her most recent post in the College of Health Sciences and Professional Studies.

Former provost Paul Lang passed away in January.  English professor Lesley Larkin took over as acting provost and chief academic officer.

NMU President Fritz Erickson says Schuiling is the right person at the right time for the position.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
