NMU recognized for assisting student veterans

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University has been honored by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for its efforts in helping student vets.

NMU is the only U.P. school to achieve “gold level” status from the MVAA for supporting the academic and transitional needs of those students.

Northern has a Veteran Resources Representative who assists student veterans in filing for and/or managing their earned VA benefits.  He also serves as adviser for the school’s Student Veterans Association and plans several veteran-friendly activities through the year.

The MVAA’s 2015-16 rankings recognize Michigan higher education institutions for their dedication to student veterans and their dependents utilizing the G.I. Bill and other education benefits.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
