NMU expands educational access with EAN

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University is expanding its reach with its new Educational

Access Network.

Vice President for Extended Learning and Community Engagement Steve VandenAvond says the EAN consists of credit and non-credit offerings and NMU LTE internet access service.  The EAN will offer educational programs to those seeking a degree or certificate, those wanting personal or professional development, and grade schools, high schools, and colleges.

VandenAvond says the service is available in Marquette and parts of Ishpeming, and officials plan to expand it to the entire U.P. within two years.  He says that means students can access the network off-campus, and other people can take advantage of the EAN, as well.

“It also allows us to reach out to populations with our educational programs that we couldn’t reach out to before because they had limited or no access to the internet.  So now we can bring them our educational offerings—and we have a number of really strong academic programs and personal and professional development programs that we can now bring to people throughout the U.P.,” he says.

The EAN will extend to Escanaba next, then Bay Mills.
