NMU communications professor unexpectedly passes

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University has lost a bright light.

Dr. Charles Ganzert, a professor in the Communication and Performance Studies Department, passed away early Thursday morning.  He was a champion of several groundbreaking initiatives at NMU, having served students and Northern for 23 years.  Ganzert received numerous awards during his tenure for his outstanding performance, and was slated to formally receive NMU’s Distinguished Faculty Award on April 25.

Ganzert and his Advanced Audio classes worked with musical groups through the years to produce programs for Public Radio 90.  He was also heavily involved in Marquette’s Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival.

Public Radio 90 and the NMU community extend their heartfelt condolences to Dr. Ganzert’s family.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
