NMU coach in penalty box

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University’s head hockey coach has been placed on administrative leave.

Walt Kyle was benched Monday, along with NMU associate director of athletics Bridget Berube Carter.  Officials with Northern have not given a reason for the action, nor is known if the incidents are related.

Athletic director Forrest Karr says, “It’s the university’s standard practice not to comment on personnel issues.”  He wouldn’t say how long the two will be on leave.

The hockey team is in Pennsylvania playing Penn State this weekend.  Assistant coaches Rob Lehtinen and John Kyle will take the reins in Walt Kyle’s absence.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
