NMU adds two men's, two women's sports

MARQUETTE, MI--   Four intercollegiate varsity sports have been added to Northern Michigan University’s roster.

All will be in the Division II level.  Women’s golf and men’s swimming and diving will be included next fall, while men’s soccer and women’s lacrosse will be implemented in fall of 2016.

NMU athletic director Forrest Karr says the new sports will attract about 92 students.  He says adding them will address gender equity issues and enrollment, and should generate net revenue for the university.

The NMU Board of Trustees approved the additions at a meeting Friday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
