New plan seeks to decrease cancer deaths across Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A new plan from Michigan health officials seeks to decrease the number of cancer deaths across the state.

Michigan's first lady Sue Snyder on Wednesday announced the plan along with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Cancer Consortium. Snyder, a breast cancer survivor, says it "will help raise awareness around prevention and save lives."
The plan seeks to provide information on clinical trials and other resources to those with cancer and states that cancer treatment studies and clinical trials should be accessible to all in the state. It also recommends screening and human papillomavirus vaccination.
The plan says cancer patients should have clear instructions on what to do after treatment ends. And the plan includes targets to monitor progress.
