New historical markers going up in MI

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The Michigan Historical Commission has approved five new historical markers for the state.

Poet Carl Sandburg's beachfront home on Lake Michigan near Harbert and conservation pioneer Aldo Leopold's family cabin on Marquette Island in Mackinac County will receive two of the markers.

The Michigan Paper Co. Mill Historic District in Plainwell, Argentine Cemetery in Linden and the Bailey Temple Church of God in Christ in Detroit also will receive markers.

The markers will be added to more than 1,700 of the green and gold signs.

Applications also have been accepted for new markers at Jackson County's Meridian-Baseline State Park, the Peter E. Richmond House in Mount Pleasant, Michigan's first state geologist Douglass Houghton in Eagle River and the Charles Stewart Mott estate in Flint.
