Negaunee snowmobile accident injures man

NEGAUNEE, MI--   A downstate man has been injured in a snowmobile accident in Negaunee.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Monday just after noon to Trail #8 at the Carp River Bridge crossing. Walter Sammut, 65, of Lupton was traveling too fast for trail conditions when his snowmobile hit a number of bumps. He lost control of the sled and fell off. The snowmobile continued down the trail until it crashed.

Sammut was transported out of the woods by the Sheriff’s Department Rescue snowmobile sled to an ambulance on County Road 492. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette for a collarbone injury.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
