CALUMET, MI-- Visitors to the Keweenaw National Historical Park contribute millions of dollars a year to the local economy.
That’s the finding of a National Park Service report for 2012. The report indicates 240,000 visitors spent about $10 million in communities throughout the Copper Country. It says that spending supported 95 jobs in the area.
The report also says the park’s federal budget and project funding in 2012 contributed about $3 million and more than 20 jobs into the local economy.
According to the report, 39 percent of park visitor spending in 2012 supported jobs in restaurants, grocery, and convenience stores; 27 percent at hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts; and 20 percent in other amusement and recreational activities.
