Names released in Wells Township fire

WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI--   State Police have released the names of those caught in a structure fire in Wells Township Thursday.

Around 10:55 p.m. troopers from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to a camp on County Road 426. A passerby had called 911 when he saw the residence engulfed in flames. Troopers say the building had exploded prior to the call.

Injured in the fire were James Mallon, 36, and Danica Mallon, 40, of Gwinn. The Mallons had driven from the camp to a home on Pearce Street in Gwinn before witnesses encountered them and called 911. Both were taken to UPHS-Marquette, then flown to the University of Michigan for treatment of severe burns. Their condition is unknown at this time.

State Police say the cause of the explosion and the fire remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
