Name of alleged Palmer shooter released

MARQUETTE, MI--   State Police have released the name of the man accused of shooting a family member in Palmer over the weekend.  

Richard Lehto, 52, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, firearm usage under the influence and domestic violence-3rd offense.

A firearm was reportedly discharged during an argument Saturday between Lehto and his 18-year-old son, Zachary.  The younger Lehto was taken to Marquette General Hospital and underwent emergency surgery.  He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

A preliminary exam for Richard Lehto is set for March 26 in Marquette County District Court. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
