Multi-vehicle accident on US-41 in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE, MI--   Four vehicles were involved in an accident in Marquette Township Monday.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to US-41 at Brickyard Road around 1:35 p.m.  They say an eastbound Cadillac driven by Ruth Wisti, 83, of Hancock, had slowed in the inside lane to turn left.  A Ford pickup driven by Dale Black, 32, of Marquette slowed behind her, as did a Subaru Forester driven by Jacob Paupore, 17, of Negaunee.  Wyatt Soeltner, 17, of Negaunee was driving a Ford Ranger behind Paupore.  He couldn't slow down in time and crashed into Paupore, who hit Black's vehicle.  Black then hit the Cadillac.  Soeltner's vehicle overturned and came to rest on its wheels.

Only minor injuries were reported.

Soeltner was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
