MTU library fire under investigation

HOUGHTON, MI--

Officials continue to investigate the cause of a fire at Michigan Technological University.

WLUC-TV reports the fire broke out Friday morning around 11:50 in the Michigan Tech Archives and Copper Country Collections of the J.R. Van Pelt Library.

Although the fire was put out quickly some materials suffered water damage.  Officials say freezer trucks were brought in to store documents and minimize damage.

The building was closed until Sunday.  The library is reopen, but the basement will remain closed until further notice.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
