MSU, NMU, UPHS Marquette introduce new collaboration

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine has announced a new health research collaboration with UP Health System Marquette and Northern Michigan University.

The collaboration brings two newly recruited MSU researchers, who will be given space at NMU to conduct their research.

Dr. Michael Stoolmiller, a psychologist, focuses on children’s mental health with the aim of preventing health risking behaviors and promoting healthier lifestyles when they become adolescents.  He’ll reside in NMU’s Department of Psychology.

Dr. Erich Petushek researches sports medicine and cognitive science.  His work centers on preventing injuries and accelerating rehabilitation by creating efficient screening systems.  Petushek will have space in NMU’s Olympic Training Site.

Officials say the collaboration will provide a local connection to research opportunities for MSU College of Human Medicine students and family medicine residents who are training at the UP Campus.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
