Motorcyle crashes on CR 550

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   A motorcyclist escaped injury, following a crash in Powell Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Thursday around 6:15 p.m. on County Road 550. The sheriff’s office was patrolling the area when a deputy saw a motorcycle driving northbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy gave chase, at which time the motorcyclist turned to go southbound. The deputy tried to stop the bike with the patrol car’s lights, siren, and a hand signal, but the driver of the bike once again fled the scene. He failed to negotiate a curve, went off the roadway, and crashed east of the Marquette city limits.

The driver—an 18-year-old Marquette man—was not injured.

He was arrested on numerous charges.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
