Motorcyclist leads Calumet trooper on high-speed chase

HOUGHTON, MI--   A motorcycle driver is jailed after the suspect led police on a 60-mile chase Wednesday.

A trooper from the Calumet Post tried to stop the bike for speeding on Houghton Canal Road, but the rider took off at a high rate of speed.  The chase initially headed south on M-26, left Houghton, then circled back into Portage Township.  The suspect turned around again by the Copper Country Mall and drove south on M-26.  Eventually the driver stopped on M-38 near Woodspur Road just outside of Ontonagon and surrendered.

The suspect was arrested on several felony charges and lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

Troopers were assisted by Houghton City Police, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department.
