Money comes through for Delta County Correctional Center

ESCANABA, MI--   Delta County has received a $17.9 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its new Correctional Center.

The money will be used to construct a 201-bed jail, Sheriff’s Office, and public building. The design includes built-in expansion capabilities for additional housing and a possible mental health facility. It will be built on the site of the current Delta County Service Center.

Groundbreaking on the project took place in September.

The loan comes through the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan Program.
