Mobile food pantry to be held in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Rotaract Club at Northern Michigan University is hosting a mobile food pantry later this month.

Sponsored by Feeding America West Michigan, about 15,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables, dairy products, baked goods, and non-perishable items will be distributed to those who need it at the Marquette Salvation Army.

Clients won’t have to show ID or proof of income, but they will need to affirm they’re in need of food and need to bring their own boxes or bags.

The distribution takes place Tuesday, April 18 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Feeding America West Michigan says Marquette County has the greatest mismatch between the need for food and the amount of food being provided. While it runs a monthly mobile food pantry in Ishpeming, it doesn’t have an established mobile food pantry host in Marquette.

The NMU Rotaract Club arranged for the event with financial support from Marquette’s three Rotary clubs.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
