Minor injuries reported in Commerce Drive accident

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person suffered a minor injury in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Monday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 4:30 p.m. on Commerce Drive near Wright Street.  A vehicle driven by Jenna Hiironen, 29, of Palmer was eastbound when she approached a pickup driven by Kenneth Quinnell, 68, of Ishpeming that was stopped on Commerce.  He was waiting to turn left into the Marq-Tran bus station.  Hiironen was driving too fast and was unable to stop in time.  She lost control of her vehicle, which slid sideways and hit Quinnell’s truck.

Quinnell was taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment of a neck injury.  Hiironen and her two-year-old passenger were unharmed.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
