Mini Cooper crazies cross Michigan bridge; no record set

myfoxdetroit.com

ST. IGNACE, MI (AP)--   It was a Michigan invasion of Mini Coopers.

More than 1,300 Minis crossed the Mackinac Bridge in northern Michigan on Saturday but fell short of the world record. In 2009, 1,450 Minis drove single-file in London.

The Bay City Times says there were license plates from Alaska, Texas, California and Colorado. St. Ignace Mayor Paul Grondin says the line of cars seemed endless.

The drive across the bridge went from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace.

Mike Santora drove to Michigan from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He says he gets excited when he talks to fellow Mini owners at big gatherings.

Mini lovers say they'll try again in 2017.
