Michigan Tech holds independent film fest

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Technological University is holding its 41 North Film Festival over the next few days on campus.

Formerly called the Northern Lights Film Festival, 41 North features award-winning independent films from throughout the world.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the movie “Life Animated”, about Owen Suskind, the son of Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Ron Suskind.  Owen is on the autism spectrum and is unable to speak until he and his family connect through Disney films.

Suskind and Academy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams, who directed “Life Animated”, will attend the Friday showing and hold a panel discussion afterward.  The film begins at 7:30.

The festival runs through Sunday. For more information about films, times, and venues, go to 41northfilmfest.org.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
