Michigan Rail Conference planned for August in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   Plans are in the works for next month's annual Michigan Rail Conference. 

The event takes place Aug. 17-18 at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

The theme is "Connecting the Dots: Business, Communities and Technology."

Topics include the future of rail in Michigan, Upper Peninsula rail operations and passenger rail operations. The second day of the event includes optional visits to rail facilities, including the Lundin Mining mill and related Mineral Range Railroad operations.

The Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan Technological University, Michigan State University, Wayne County Community College District, the Michigan Railroads Association and other partners are hosting the fourth-annual event.

Students interested in rail careers also are invited to attend. Organizers are offering students a limited number of scholarships to attend.
