Michigan colleges partner on historic mineral preservation

HOUGHTON, MI (AP)--   Two of the state's top universities are banding together to preserve the legacy of historic mineral collection in Michigan.

The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum at Michigan Technological University is curating and exhibiting the University of Michigan's mineral collection. A permanent exhibit featuring specimens from the Ann Arbor school's collection opened Tuesday at the museum in Houghton.

Other specimens from the collection will be exhibited at mineral shows across the county and at satellite locations. Michigan Tech's museum will maintain a satellite on the University of Michigan campus.

Michigan Tech President Glenn Mroz says the universities are collaborating for the benefit of all Michigan residents.

The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum has a nationally recognized mineral collection with specimens from Michigan, the Great Lakes region and other countries.
