LANSING, MI-- It’s not even Halloween yet, but officials have already selected the state Christmas tree.
A spruce from Stephenson will travel south to Lansing this month to become Michigan’s 32nd official Christmas tree.
Over 60 feet tall, the tree is being donated by William Winter and his grandson Alex Stevens. It was chosen by staff from the Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
The spruce will be harvested October 26 and delivered with the help of the Michigan Association of Timbermen, the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, and Michigan Operators Engineers.
A tree lighting will take place November 17 as part of Lansing’s “Silver Bells in the City” celebration.
