MI Senator tries to save mail service centers

WASHINGTON, D.C.--   U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow is trying to prevent the closure of the Kingsford postal facility, among others in Michigan.

Monday Stabenow and 12 other Senators announced an amendment that would stop the Postal Service from closing the facilities for two years.  It would also re-establish overnight delivery standards for first-class mail.

Stabenow says the post office provides a critical basic service and that “closing facilities and cutting services will lead to delays that will harm Michigan businesses and families.”

In November Stabenow sent the Postmaster General a letter asking for closures and consolidations to be delayed until studies are completed and the public could provide input.
