Medical condition blamed for Delta County crash

GLADSTONE, MI--   A Rapid River woman has suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle rollover accident near Gladstone.

Troopers responded to M-35/US-2/41 near Lake Bluff Drive around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.  They say the 70-year-old driver was southbound in a GMC Acadia when it left the roadway and entered the western side ditch.  The vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down.

The woman had to be helped out of the vehicle.  She was taken to St. Francis Hospital and treated for minor injuries.  There, doctors uncovered a previously undiagnosed medical condition, which appears to be a significant factor in the crash.  The driver was transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment.

No citations were issued.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
