LANSING, MI-- The Michigan Department of Transportation is lifting most traffic restrictions to make Memorial Day travel easier.
Officials say lane restrictions on almost 73 percent of road and bridge projects will be removed to mitigate delays.
AAA Michigan estimates more than 1.3 million state residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home over the holiday weekend. That’s a nearly 5-percent increase over last year and the most in more than a decade.
MDOT says while drivers will see suspended operations in most construction zones for the weekend, equipment and certain traffic configurations—like temporary shifts or shoulder closures—may remain in place.
The work suspension begins at 3 p.m. Friday and ends at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
