Marquette Women's Center receives challenge grant

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Women’s Center in Marquette has received a matching gift opportunity to pay off its mortgage.

Center Executive Director Beth Casady says Rod and Holly Aldrich are matching all 2018 gifts that are directed to pay off the shelter’s $507,000 mortgage.

Casady says paying off the debt will ensure the shelter is viable into the future, and it will free money to expand the center’s outreach into other areas.

“It’s a 30-year payout. It’s a very low interest rate, but 30 years out we’re paying… we’re going to save over $300,000 by getting that mortgage paid off early,” she says.

Casady says it costs more than $31,000 a year to pay the mortgage for the center, which serves between 150 and 175 people annually.

Gifts must be received by February 22 of 2019 to be matched, but donations of $20,000 or more can be stretched over two years.

For more information call Casady at 225-1346, extension 210.
