Marquette County snowmobile crashes injure two

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate snowmobile crashes Thursday. The first happened around 1:50 p.m. on Trail #14 in Powell Township about 14 miles west of Big Bay. 

David Noffke, 69, of Wisconsin was heading west when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the trail.  He was taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment of injuries.

The second accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Trail #5 about a half-mile east of M-95 in Humboldt Township. 

David Daniels, 62, of Grand Haven was eastbound when a snowmobile in front of him stopped near a bridge crossing.  Daniels tried to go around the machine and hit another driven by Richard Hartigan, 73, of Howell. Tartigan was also taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment.  Daniels sought his own treatment for his injuries.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
