Marquette County officials plan for possible Ebola scenario

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette County Health Department is establishing a plan to deal with the Ebola virus.

Officials say no cases have been transmitted in the U.S. and the likelihood of the outbreak is spreading beyond West Africa is very low.  But Medical Director Terry Frankovich says the department needs to be prepared for any travelers to affected nations who were potentially exposed to the virus.

Frankovich says Marquette General Hospital has plans in place to quickly isolate and treat anyone who has visited African nations affected by Ebola and is exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

Ebola is spread only through exposure to the bodily fluids of someone with the disease.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
