MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   Ownership of a lighthouse is being transferred from the federal government to the city of Marquette in time for its 150th anniversary.

The Marquette City Commission has unanimously accepted a U.S. Coast Guard deed for the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. Mayor Dave Campana is expected to sign the document on July 30, a day designated to celebrate the sesquicentennial.

A 2002 agreement allowed the Marquette Maritime Museum to lease the lighthouse and offer tours.

Some officials expressed concerns about the costs of bringing the structure into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. City Attorney Ron Keefe says a requirement of the deal is to continue tours as they are.

The Lake Superior lighthouse, situated on about 5.5 acres, was constructed in 1866.
