Man trapped in crashed car for hours before rescue

ERWIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Gogebic County man had to be extricated from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life following a single-vehicle accident in Erwin Township over the weekend.

The crash was called in to 911 Sunday morning.  Sheriff’s deputies say a 22-year-old Erwin Township man was southbound on East End Road when the vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees.  The driver was apparently pinned in his vehicle for several hours before a passing motorist noticed the accident.

The driver was taken to Aspirus Grandview Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
