BESSEMER, MI--   Authorities in the Western U.P. are investigating a suicide at the Gogebic County Jail.

State Police from the Wakefield Post say Sheriff Pete Matonich contacted them Thursday around 4 p.m.  A 53-year-old ironwood man who was lodged at the jail had apparently killed himself.

The man’s name and the cause of death have not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
