Man involved in Chocolay Township robberies sentenced

MARQUETTE, MI--   An Escanaba man accused of armed robbery in Chocolay Township has been sentenced.

Jaccob Jones, 18, was charged with four counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery. He and two codefendants were arrested in connection with the August 16 incidents.

Two of the men threatened a clerk at America’s Best Value Inn with a knife and demanded money. They allegedly fled to Kassel’s Korner gas station and robbed people there.

Jones was sentenced Friday to five to 15 years in prison with credit for 304 days already served.

He’s also charged with aiding and abetting an armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery at the Escanaba Quality Inn and Suites August 15, and awaits sentencing in Delta County.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
