Man dies on Delta County ski trail

DELTA COUNTY, MI--   A Menominee County man unexpectedly died while skiing in Delta County on Sunday.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office was called around 2:20 p.m. to the Days River Ski Trail for a man down, not breathing.  The man—identified as James Cousineau, 68, of Wilson—had been skiing when he suddenly collapsed.

Officials started CPR, but were unsuccessful. Valley Med Flight responded and was later canceled by authorities.

Cousineau was transported from the ski trail by the Ensign Township Fire Department’s ARGO.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Delta County SO Snowmobile Patrol, Delta County Search and Rescue, and the Brampton Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
