Man arrested for stealing Ishpeming Township vehicle, breaking into Marquette Township home

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming Township man has been arrested for stealing a car and breaking into a house. 

Thursday around 3:45 a.m. State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched to Marquette Township after a witness reported a vehicle driving on its rims and spraying sparks. Investigation revealed it was reported stolen from Ishpeming Township.

The vehicle became disabled at the intersection of Woodridge and Cherry streets, where the driver fled on foot. Officers spotted the suspect on Waldo and were able to apprehend him.

The suspect is a 25-year-old man from Ishpeming Township. Police say at the time of his arrest he had just broken into an occupied residence and was fleeing with stolen property.

The man is charged with unlawfully driving away an automobile, 1st-degree home invasion, larceny from a building, and resisting/obstructing a police officer. He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
