M-553 crash injures one

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Gwinn woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident on M-553 near the Marquette Mountain Ski Hill Sunday.

The Marquette Police Department says around 1:50 p.m. Paul Bruk, 56, of Massachusetts was driving a vehicle northbound when he fell asleep at the wheel. His car crossed the centerline and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Patricia Forchini, 76, of Gwinn head-on.

Forchini was taken to UPHS-Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bruk was cited for careless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
