Lost Marquette Township hikers found

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two hikers who became lost in the Harlow Lake area have been rescued by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say Monday around 2:50 p.m. Central Dispatch received a 911 call from Skye Jarskewy, 19, and Amanda Waniolek, 18, who were hiking on a trail just south of Harlow Lake. The NMU students lost sight of the trail due to deep snow cover and became lost.

The two realized they needed assistance and dialed 911. Central Dispatch obtained GPS coordinates from the call and relayed them to deputies and Search and Rescue personnel. Officers used ATVs to drive within 600 feet of the coordinates and found the hikers.

The women were in good health and were brought back to their vehicle.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
