Lost Marquette County hunter found

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming hunter is safe, after he became lost in Marquette County.

Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel were called Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. to an area near the intersection of Flat Rock Road and Flood Wood Road in Humboldt Township. 

Stanley Uitto, 85, and his son David, 53, were hunting in the area, but when David returned to his truck at dark his father wasn’t there.  David Uitto called 911 and directed searchers to where his father had been. 

Stanley Uitto was found a short time later, unharmed.  He said he’d gotten turned around in the woods and didn’t have a flashlight.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
