Local emergency declared in Gogebic County

GOGEBIC COUNTY, MI--   Gogebic County’s Emergency Manager and County officials have declared a local emergency due to severe thunderstorms Monday night. 

The declaration was made around 6 a.m. Tuesday after flash flooding and downed trees hit Bessemer Township, the City of Wakefield, and Ironwood Township. 

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, fire departments, and the Gogebic County Road Commission are responding and will continue to assist in the incident.

Lake Road at Little Girls Point to the Wisconsin line is closed due to flooding and washed-out roads.  Emergency personnel are in the process of checking on and assisting residents at Little Girls Point. 

Anyone who is stranded should stay in place until rescuers arrive at their residence.

No injuries or missing residents have been reported.
