Life in prison for Eric Ruska

MARQUETTE, MI--   Eric Ruska has been sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping a woman and repeatedly assaulting her last July. 

The 37-year-old pleaded guilty in federal court in November to kidnapping and three counts of aggravated sexual abuse.

He reportedly asked the 28-year-old victim to go fishing with him on Chicago Lake threatened her, then took her hostage. Ruska drove around the Hiawatha National Forest for five days and assaulted the Cooks woman.

He was finally arrested July 14 at the Shell gas station in Munising. The victim was found ratchet-strapped to the front seat.

Ruska was sentenced late Friday. He was already a registered sex offender who spent 10 years in prison for kidnapping and 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
